The Law
I found out a few days ago that a Father and Son from up the street from me had been arrested for various deer hunting related charges. The son was apparently caught shooting from the road in a car. That is illegal in North Carolina, as it should be. The Game Wardens searched the Sons property and found some deer carcass and he told them the carcass belonged to his Dad, so they searched his home as well. Turns out they had like five deer between them that they had not tagged. What I can't seem to figure out is, why? Why did they not just tag the deer they had killed this year? In North Carolina you can tag six deer, two bucks and four does. So they should have been able to harvest twelve deer in all. Both are good at hunting they take deer every year. They have a few good places to hunt too. No need to shoot from the road. I think there is a lesson for us all from their mistakes. First when is enough, enough? Do we really need to kill every deer we see? I know the pressure from other hunters to "get one" is hard to take sometimes but do we have to resort to breaking the law to get the most. This is exactly what the anti-hunting crowd wants us to be, jerks with guns. Now they can say look at these guys and what they are up to and put the blame on us all. Hunters only make up about six percent of the population, and if we don't police ourselves, we could find our hunting privileges gone. Next time a buddy suggest that you do any thing out side of the law, tell them "no way" we all have to stand firm and work hard to keep our right to hunt, or I can guarantee you it will be taken away.

Cabin on the Tuckertown lake
We went down to the Cabin last weekend to bow hunt. We had one blow at us early, then nothing. I set up my game cam on a salt lick back in the woods and got these shots of a few young deer and a few spikes eating my corn and having at the salt. We are going to go back down on Sunday afternoon to give it another shot, I think our chances are good to at least maybe see some whitetails.

New hunting club Ellerbee N.C.
I have joined a hunting club this year for the 2010 hunting season. I have not been a member of a club for many years. I used to have plenty of places to hunt that where safe and I could take my kids or relatives with me knowing that they would be safe too. After last year with all kinds of nonsense taking place on some land I was hunting, like a fool walking around in gun season with no orange on, who said he was stalking a buck he had seen a few weeks before. Never mind that the land he was on was posted and he had no right to be there. Then I found out after the leaves dropped that a neighbor had put up stands as close to my feeders as he could to take advantage of my bait. Also I noticed that as soon as squirrel season starts around here you start to hear lots of shooting going on, and I know for a fact that don't many folks hunt squirrels any more. Gun season for deer starts when people start seeing deer during the pre-rut. They know nobody cares and who is going to call the wardens who don't seem to care either. Any way I have decided to join a club down in Richmond county near Ellerbee NC to get away from Rowan and Cabarrus for at least this season. I have my nephew Kerston 12 who is going to be hunting his first bow season this year. It is great to get to see a young man get his first deer and I hope I am going to be there with him when he gets his. here are a few shots from the game camera.
