The Law

I found out a few days ago that a Father and Son from up the street from me had been arrested for various deer hunting related charges. The son was apparently caught shooting from the road in a car. That is illegal in North Carolina, as it should be. The Game Wardens searched the Sons property and found some deer carcass and he told them the carcass belonged to his Dad, so they searched his home as well. Turns out they had like five deer between them that they had not tagged. What I can't seem to figure out is, why? Why did they not just tag the deer they had killed this year? In North Carolina you can tag six deer, two bucks and four does. So they should have been able to harvest twelve deer in all. Both are good at hunting they take deer every year. They have a few good places to hunt too. No need to shoot from the road. I think there is a lesson for us all from their mistakes. First when is enough, enough? Do we really need to kill every deer we see? I know the pressure from other hunters to "get one" is hard to take sometimes but do we have to resort to breaking the law to get the most. This is exactly what the anti-hunting crowd wants us to be, jerks with guns. Now they can say look at these guys and what they are up to and put the blame on us all. Hunters only make up about six percent of the population, and if we don't police ourselves, we could find our hunting privileges gone. Next time a buddy suggest that you do any thing out side of the law, tell them "no way" we all have to stand firm and work hard to keep our right to hunt, or I can guarantee you it will be taken away.
